Bred originally in Tosa, in Japan´s Kochi prefecture, the tosa is a result of crossing Shikoku fighting dogs with Bulldogs, Mastiffs, German Pointers, Great Danes, Bull Terriers and even Saint Bernards. The aim was to increase the size and strength of the local dogs so that they were not habitually defeated in dog-fighting sports by european breeds.
The breed became a stoic fighter which would rarely even whimper or scream, but would fight to the death.

This is Akihito (named after a Japanese Emperor) but we call him Cujo. He´s a 7 year old male Tosa. He weighs around 85 kg. and is 80 cm. high. He lives in Örebro, Sweden with me Camilla (his owner) and his brother, a 10 year old male English Mastiff called Tyson.
Cujo is a very active dog who loves to excersise, so I take him running or training almost every day. He just can´t get enough of it. He´s also a very friendly tosa, loves people especially children. Once you start to cuddle with him you´ll be stuck there for hours.
Cujo gets along with almost all dogs and his best friend, who is a male Jack Russell Terrier, trusts him so much that he always puts his head in Cujos mouth.
But even though Cujo is a very friendly and lovable dog he protects his home and the ones he love with his life.
