Story

How a Bear came to live at FoxFire.
Bear is typical of male dog from sentry guardian lines: dog tolerant, aloof with strangers, trainable, shows affection in a very polite manner. No desire to greet strangers: he is all work.

Bear is a long-haired CAS, yet he sheds the least out of our pack with much shorter hair. Primarily due to his undercoat being less and top coat longer.
Despite 5 years of city living , Bear has adapted well to farm life & livestock. He is the size of a small pony so he has never come across a dog larger than himself.
This is Thanksgiving 2004 & yes his legs are that big.....

As all FoxFire dogs he lives in a pack of 6 females - 3 of which are meant for him. None of our dogs are kenneled and all live in our home.
Since we got him at a late age he can not hang with our other stud, Coz. They are separated by a baby gate in our home & a chicken wire fence outside.

Bear's life was not always so great: he was sold to a couple that later broke up & they were not able to care for this dog. He simply was too big of a dog for city life.
Background on me getting him:
I get at call from Dr. Chaiken who is an expert in the breed, saying I got this great dog for you. Come see him, he is big, perfect, so on and so forth. Now the truth is I get 10 calls a year begging me to take other people's dogs. But this was Dr. Ron so I said when I come down to the ARBA show in NJ, I will stop by in Brooklyn to see you. Well anyway, his workers bring Bear out from the back of the clinic where he had been guarding the place for a year. My husband said my mouth hit the floor, I was in shock at the size, the conformation. I was dumbfounded and wanted to hit myself upside the head for not believing him and coming down earlier in the year. Well I told Dr. Chaiken I want him and he came to live with us 2 weeks later.
I Showed him the 1st week I got him & he went Best in Show: the very 1st Adult USA Best in Show for the breed. We bred him that summer to my female Ali… What a great breeding and boy what a commotion he caused in the Dog Show World.

Bear has sired 1 litter here which turned out to be outstanding & producing the biggest bone in a litter in the USA, FoxFire J-lo .25.
However he throws some very active human distrust/protection in his lines. High tolerance of dogs but very active defense. So we don’t breed him as often since most buyers can NOT handle a dog of that size with that strong a natural protection instinct..
So now 2 years later we created a female for from the typical LGD lines x Sentry guard dogs in an attempt to cool off the temperaments on the pups a bit. Hope it works -- his pups regardless only go to homes that want a Guard type dog and have stronger than average fencing. Today some are working on ranches in CA, others are property guardians, and 2 are Show Champions. See here is FoxFire Grigor Owner Nicole Bartner Graff.

Special note: No wins- No Titles but to us a precious Gift
In that litter of 9 he gave us one very special gift, a runt called FoxFire Precious. She came into this world fighting despite her small size - ¼ of a pound…. We had to bottle feed her for 10 days to insure she got enough since her moms nipples were bigger than her mouth. She grew up on my neck…. Of course since she turned out to be too small for the breed we spayed and and turned down many offers for her…. Don’t let her small size fool you: she plays and takes down the big girls, and has won a Group 4 in an Altered Class.

So there you have it: the story of a Bear who is still at age 8 showing, working and going strong.
A REAL testament to longevity - living life and living it well.
