Gustav was bred by Alan Bates in England, and imported as a young puppy to Norway by me.
I am using Gustav much as a working dog. We started early to train him in tracking, which he likes very much.
We have also trained schutz, which he does not do as successful as tracking, but he nevertheless do what we require.
Most of all Gustav enjoy our daily walks in the forest, where he for one hour pulls 4 car tyres (US = tires) around in our pre arranged track.

Gustav has excellent hips, free of HD (HD-B), and he has neither had any skin disease, which is fairly common in the Dogue. My opinion is that this breed is not as unhealty as many says, but there are many un-serious breeders that breeds for profit and/or looks, and not with the fuctionality and health of the dogs in mind.
Gustav is a very sound Dogue, most likely the soundest Dogue in Norway. He has completed with success and passed the mental test for working dogs, arranged by the Norwegian Military Dog Unit (Forsvarets Hundeskole) at Gardermoen.

Gutav have only been shown at dog-shows twice. The first time he was shown he became BOB with CAC & CACIB, and at this show he won over the top winning DDB in Norway. The second time he was shown he became the runner up dog. The priority have not been dog shows but training and working. However, in the future Gustav will be shown much more, to show people that healty working dog also can have the correct built and type, according to the standard.
